Hello, and welcome to my Information Technology Blog! My name is DeJuan Hardy, and this is my first time creating a blog that will share my journey of the beginning stages of the IT world. I hope this blog serves as a valuable resource for learning and discussion to whomever finds this page.

My Background & Experience

I am originally from California and currently serve in the U.S. Air Force, as an aircrew member, who specializes in combat and civilian search and rescue, a role that requires precision, adaptability, and teamwork.

While my professional background is in aviation and military operations, I have always had a growing interest in technology. This has led me to pursue my B.S. in Cybersecurity, where I am excited to develop a strong foundation in information security and defense strategies. Although I have very minimal experience in IT, I am committed to learning as much as possible and applying these skills to strengthen my expertise in cybersecurity.

Career Aspiration & Goals

My ultimate goal is to transition into the cybersecurity field after I retire from the military, where I can leverage my acquired skills and problem solving mindset to help protect digital assets and infrastructures. I am most interested in network security and threat intelligence.

Hobbies

When I'm off duty, you can find me enjoying many hobbies, such as, snowboarding, golf, gaming, and many other outdoor activities. I believe in maintaining a healthy balance between both personal and professional growth, while also challenging myself both physically and mentally.

What I Hope to Gain From This Course

Through this course, I hope to broaden my IT knowledge, develop hands-on skills, and gain a deeper understanding of cybersecurity and IT. By broadening my skills, I aim to build confidence in my abilities and set a solid foundation for my future in the IT field.

This blog will reflect on my experience using Scratch, which is a simple drag-and-drop, block programming language, while also comparing it to the participation activities from Sections 2.8 through 2.11 of the textbook, exploring machine language assembly language, and high-level languages such as Python. Traveling Through A Network

Ping and traceroute commands help us understand how data travels through networks. By using these tools, I observed how packets move between different locations and how network conditions affect performance. Ping Activity I tested three websites: Google.com (USA), Amazon Japan (.jp), and Expedia China (.cn). The ping results showed: Google.com : Had a fast response time that averaged 50.5ms and received no packet loss. Amazon Japan : Had a lower response time and averaged around 28.1ms, which was most likely due to a nearby CDN server. Expedia China : Response times varied significantly from 25.7ms to 97.2ms and was likely due to congestion or routing changes, but no showed no packet loss. These ping results showed that distance affects response times and that CDN’s can reduce latency. Ping Command Attacks The ping command is a diagnostic tool used to test network connectivity. However, it can be used for other purposes, leading to cyberattacks such as ping flood attacks and ping of death attacks. Ping flood attacks, also known as ICMP flood, is a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack that overwhelms a target with internet traffic, such as pings, to make it inaccessible.
